Cambrian Aquatics Update – April 2025
We’re pleased to share that Deeside Architectural Design has received pre-application approval from the Flintshire Planning Department for the Cambrian Aquatics (Connah’s Quay Swimming Pool) revitalisation project. This milestone marks a significant step forward in collaboration with Flintshire County Council’s Regeneration Team, who are diligently pursuing a £300,000 grant from the Welsh Government to fund the next phase.
As we await the Welsh Government’s decision on the grant, we’ll keep you updated on the project’s progress.
This initiative aims to boost local footfall and support the Flintshire economy.
Stay tuned for more updates.
Ongoing project Cambrian Aquatics, Flintshire. Start of Project Oct 24.
At Deeside Architectural Design, our talented team is actively working on a variety of projects, including an exciting commission from Flintshire County Council as part of a local regeneration initiative. One of our key projects focuses on Cambrian Aquatics (Connah’s Quay Swimming Pool), where our brief is to revitalise the facility and boost footfall, enhancing the local economy. This is a local development to us being based on a few miles away.
Having successfully completed Stage 1, which involved a comprehensive building survey, the creation of existing plans (see below), elevations, sections, a detailed feasibility study and Gannt chart, we are now advancing to Stage 2. In this phase, we are working closely with directors and stakeholders to refine the design brief, with the goal of creating a space that meets both community and economic objectives. Once the design is finalised, we will proceed with Stage 3 cost estimations.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue developing this project, bringing fresh ideas and sustainable solutions to life for the benefit of the local community.

Existing Plans for Cambrian Aquatics
To create the existing plans for Cambrian Aquatics, our team conducted a thorough on-site survey of the entire facility. Using advanced measurement tools and techniques, we carefully documented the layout, including the arrangement of rooms, access points, and facilities. These plans now offer a precise and detailed map of the current building, serving as the foundation for future design and development.

Existing Elevations
Elevations are detailed drawings that show the exterior faces of the Cambrian Aquatics building from different viewpoints. These drawings are essential for understanding the building’s external appearance, including height, architectural features, and materials. Elevations help us visualise how design changes will impact the overall look of the facility and ensure that any modifications enhance both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the building.

Project - The Maltings Redevelopment - Burton on Trent.
Previously, we were commissioned to redevelop The Maltings, a historic listed building that once served as a Malt House for beer production. This remarkable building, with its rich industrial history, had fallen into disrepair. Our brief was to transform it into 90 modern two-bedroom apartments, while preserving its architectural character and historical significance. The challenge was to blend contemporary living spaces with the building’s heritage, ensuring that the legacy of its past as a key part of the brewing process remained a visible and integral part of the new design.
The Maltings, Burton on Trent (External)
Externally, The Maltings has retained its distinctive industrial charm, with original brickwork and architectural details carefully restored to preserve the building’s heritage. The exterior has been thoughtfully revitalised to honour its historic roots as a Malt House, while incorporating modern features that complement its transformation into contemporary apartments. This balance between old and new ensures The Maltings stands out as both a tribute to Burton on Trent’s brewing history and a symbol of modern regeneration.
The Maltings, Burton on Trent (Internal)
As part of the transformation of The Maltings, an atrium was introduced to flood the interior with natural light, bringing brightness to every corner of the building. This central feature not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also improves the overall atmosphere, creating a sense of openness and connection throughout the space. The atrium serves as a focal point, blending the building’s historic charm with modern design elements to create a light-filled, welcoming environment for its residents.
Project - City Green - Redevelopment
City Green is a transformative project turning a former car park into 78 luxury apartments, spread across two contemporary blocks. The external design features cutting-edge non-combustible cladding for enhanced safety, while integrating sustainable technologies such as solar panels, heat pumps, and rainwater harvesting systems. These eco-friendly features not only reduce the building’s environmental impact but also offer long-term savings for future residents.
